Open Mic / Global Existential Risks
The first half will be an open mic style show & tell, this means out of the people who volunteer, 3 will be chosen to give a 5 min blurb on what philosophical topic they are passionate about and would love to share with others. It can be anything philosophically related and remember you will be essentially ‘selling’ your topic to a multi-disciplinary crowd.
The latter half will be a mini presentation led by Philosophia alumnus Andre Gordon on Global Existential Risks. We will discuss the implications of which possible future events could destroy modern civilization or cause human extinction entirely. We hope to cover both the scope of these risks along with the likelihood of them occurring. Those interested in reading more about this can search up Nick Bostrom, an eminent philosopher in this field studying global catastrophic risks specifically on the dangers of Superintelligence and the ethics of A.I.
When: This week – Thursday 8th from 6:00-8:00pm
Where: South Ross S421
